The largest operating steam locomotive in the East has a fire in her belly once again. Western Maryland #1309, which had been undergoing repairs the majority of the railroad’s operating season, was spotted in Cumberland last night (10/2/23) under steam.
It is not known at this time when the locomotive will return to revenue service, however the railroad did confirm in a Facebook post the goal was to return the locomotive to operation for fall trains.
Tickets for Western Maryland trains, including the fall operation, are available for purchase on the railroad’s website.
