The Reading and Northern Railroad has released the 2024 schedule for main line excursions bound for Jim Thorpe, PA.
Two trains will be offered. One will depart from Reading Outer Station and will stop at Port Clinton, PA and Tamaqua, PA on the way to Jim Thorpe. This train will leave Reading at 9am, is due in Port Clinton by 9:38am, Tamaqua by 10:06am before arriving in Jim Thorpe at 10:55pm. The return trip will leave Jim Thorpe at 4:15 with a stop in Tamaqua at 5:00pm and Port Clinton at 5:45pm before arriving back at Reading Outer Station at 6:15.
The other option available for passengers departs the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Regional Railroad Station in Pittston, PA at 8:45am with stops in Penobscot, PA at 9:37am and the White Haven Station at 10:12am before an 11:05am arrival in Jim Thorpe. The return trip will leave Jim Thorpe at 4:05pm with stops in White Haven at 5:15 and Penobscot at 5:45pm before a 6:30pm arrival back in Pittston.
These trips will operate on weekends and select holidays beginning April 6. Information regarding special excursions such as the Iron Horse Rambles featuring Reading 2102 and fall foliage trains will be announced at a later date. The Railfan Journal will be posting those updates when they are available.
The Reading and Northern also owns and operates the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, which operates out of Jim Thorpe in to the Scenic Lehigh Gorge State Park. These trips will also operate throughout the year in addition to the main line excursions.
